HOMEWOOD | Today, the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club, at 2920 W. 183rd St., will be a host site for the National Senior Health & Fitness Day.
The nation's largest older adult health promotion event is celebrating its 20th anniversary. More than 100,000 older adults will participate in activities at more than 1,000 locations throughout the U.S.
Organized as a public-private partnership, the common goal for this day is to help keep older Americans healthy and fit. The club, as a host site, will provide free access to its full-service facility for all seniors (62+). This will include free participation in all regularly scheduled group fitness classes, the fitness center, free weight area, track, pool and locker rooms with whirlpools and steam rooms.
On that day, the club will also offer special group fitness classes geared towards the senior population such as Gentle Yoga (9:30 a.m.), Zumba Gold (11:30 a.m.), Chair Yoga (2 p.m.) and Aquacize (6:30 p.m.). As part of this annual event there will be free testing during the day including for Alzheimer's disease, blood pressure, online health screenings and foot scanning. Rush Medical Center, Ingalls Wellness Center and Dr. Derek Hartman, of the Hart Wellness Center, are offering the tests.
