CHICAGO HEIGHTS | The Prairie State College speech team received sixth place of 12 teams and brought home several individual awards from an Oct. 26 and 27 tournament hosted by Illinois Central College.
Nick Williams, of Homewood, received second place for program oral interpretation and sixth place for poetry interpretation. Jasmine Ross, of Richton Park, received fourth place for persuasion. Also competing were Dejoie Simmons, of Country Club Hills; Sarah Hill, of Harvey, and Elizabeth Rossi, of Crete. The team is coached by PSC professors Ed Schwarz, David Naze and Elighie Wilson.
“You have to work hard to be able to succeed, and that is what we continue to do as a team,” said team member Simmons.
