LANSING | The cause of a fire Thursday at a home on Indiana Avenue is under investigation, fire officials said.
Lansing firefighters were called at 3:45 p.m. for a fire in the basement of a two-story home at 2659 Indiana Ave., Fire Chief Dan Gregorovic said.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
"It appears to have started in the basement," Gregorovic said. "The cause of the fire is still under investigation."
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire and extinguished the blaze in the basement within 15 minutes, he said. Gregorovic said the home sustained heavy damage.
Calumet City, South Holland, Thornton and Munster firefighters also responded to the scene. Harvey and Burnham firefighters manned the Lansing station.
"The crews did a great job knocking it down, everything went as well as it could," Gregorovic said.
