LANSING | Village officials were told this week the company wishing to build a new Super Wal-Mart store on Torrence Avenue will begin work at the site next month.
Village Trustee Tony DeLaurentis told the Village Board on Tuesday the developer will open bids from construction companies on Friday.
A contract is expected to be awarded in early December, DeLaurentis said, with work at the site of the former Sam’s Club warehouse store to begin later in the month. Officials said the developer wants to hire one company to demolish the existing structure, then build the new Wal-Mart facility.
Officials have said they hope to have the new store open to the public by June. It would be a 24-hour operation that would include a full-scale supermarket, along with other types of retail operations within a single structure.
