LANSING | Police are asking for the public's help in locating a weapon discarded near a school after an armed home invasion there early Friday.

Police were called just after midnight to the area of 182nd Street and Exchange Avenue for a report of a possible home invasion. When officers arrived, the victim said someone wearing a ski mask allegedly entered the home and displayed a weapon.

The suspect fled the home toward Memorial Junior High School.

No one was injured in the crime.

Police located the suspect -- later positively identified by the victim -- near School Street and Indiana Avenue. The suspect's name is being withheld pending approval of criminal charges.

As of 4 a.m., the weapon had not been found. Lansing police are asking anyone who finds a weapon not to touch it and to contact them immediately at (708) 895-7150.
