LANSING | The Lansing Elementary District 158 School Board last month approved the employment of Mark Crotty as business manager, effective July 1.
Crotty will replace Doug Handley, who retired after serving eight years as district business manager.
Crotty comes to District 158 from Sunnybrook Elementary District 171, where he has spent the last three years.
"We're excited to get someone coming who's experienced and knowledgeable in school finance," D.158 Superintendent Cecilia Heiberger said.
Crotty said working with Heiberger is one of the main reasons he decided to come to District 158.
"Her main focus is doing whatever is best for her students and the community and that's really something that I respect," Crotty said.
Information on Crotty's salary was not available.
In other district news, Heiberger recently announced that five district teachers will be able to complete three graduate-level online courses in digital learning and teaching as a result of tuition waivers secured by Thornton Fractional High School District 215 Superintendent Creg Williams.
"This is through the American College of Education," Heiberger said.
Heiberger identified Shea Moroni (Coolidge Elementary), Julie Lain (Oak Glen Elementary), Matt Cieplucha (Reavis Elementary), Jaime Peldonia (Memorial Junior High School) and Maleesa Losnedahl, district technology teacher, as the five selected to take the courses.
"That helps us put in place highly trained teachers in technology to support other staff members with our one-to-one computing," Heiberger said.
