Adult Book Discussions

Avid Reads adult book discussion will meet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Lansing Public Library. The book discussed will be “Recalled to Life” by Dan Burns. This discussion will include the author. Copies are available at the upstairs circulation desk.

Reality Check adult book discussion will meet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Lansing Public Library. The book discussed will be “Between Man & Beast: An Unlikely Explorer, the Evolution Debates, and the African Adventure that Took the Victorian World by Storm” by Monte Reel. Copies are available at the upstairs circulation desk.

Murder and Mayhem adult book discussion will meet at 11 a.m. Dec. 17 at the Lansing Public Library. The book discussed will be “The Blessing Way” by Tony Hillerman. Copies are available at the upstairs circulation desk.

Friends of the Library Book Sale is Dec. 14. Members only shop from 9 to 10 a.m. and the general public shops from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Membership in the Friends available at the door. Buy one full bag for $5, get one full bag free. There is an ongoing book sale located in the Fiction and Beyond Department.

Adult Programs

Cyber Monday

From 7 a.m. to noon Dec. 2 the library will be holding a Cyber Monday event to promote its partnership with Amazon and the Buy It Now program that gives the library a percentage of purchases if a user clicks the link on the library website before shopping. The Community Room will be open and coffee, doughnuts and the use of 15 laptops will be provided. Enter the raffle to win an hourly door prize of an Amazon Giftcard. You must be present to win. Laptop use is on a first come, first serve basis.

Adult Winter Reading Program Begins Dec. 2 and runs through Jan. 18. Theme is Victorian Tea Time. All you need is your library card. Stop at Fiction and Beyond to pick up your booklet. Celebrate the program at 10 a.m. Jan. 25 in the Community Room. Light refreshments will be served. Register for this event.

The New Health Care Reform Act: What Every Medicare Beneficiary Should Know is at 10 a.m. Dec. 12. Join us for an informative discussion and pick up useful handouts for future reference.

Traveling Through Illinois at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 19. Author Ted Cable will present his latest book – "Traveling Through Illinois: Stories of Landmarks and Landscapes between Chicago and St. Louis." Books will be available for purchase and a book signing will follow the program.

Downton Abbey Countdown from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 28. Come for an afternoon of entertainment while eagerly anticipating the new season of this favorite TV series. The last episode of Season 3 will be shown and participants can chat about storyline and characters. Afterward take a tour inside Highclere Castle, the real life Downton Abbey. Tea will be served. Register.

Monday Morning Movies at 11 a.m. Dec. 9 and Jan. 13. Every second Monday of the month the Lansing library will be showing one of the hot new releases in the Community Room. No registration is required, however seating is limited at each screening to 60. For more information on the scheduled titles, call Fiction and Beyond. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Computer Classes at the Lansing Public Library.

Registration is required and is limited to 10 Lansing Library card holders. Must have library card to register. Classes are 1 1/2 to 2  hours in length. Call or pick up the library newsletter for available classes, dates and times.

Dead Relative’s Society will meet from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Dec. 21.

Calumet River Creative Writers Group will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 7 and 21.

Purls of Wisdom Knitters and Crochet Circle will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Dec. 11 and from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 20. 

The Lansing Business Women's Association is cutting and sorting coupons for military families overseas. The coupons can be used six months past the expiration date at their commissary. Join them on the first Monday of every month at the Lansing Public Library in the Community Room. They meet 9:30 a.m. to noon and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Bring scissors and any coupons you may have.
