Adult Book Discussions

Avid Reads adult book discussion will meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Lansing Public Library. The book discussed will be "Clara & Mr Tiffany" by Susan Vreeland. It’s 1893, and at the Chicago World’s Fair, Louis Comfort Tiffany makes his debut with a luminous exhibition of innovative stained glass windows, which he hopes will honor his family business and earn him a place on the international artistic stage. But behind the scenes in his New York Studio is the free-thinking Clara Driscoll, head of his women’s division. Publicly recognized by Tiffany, Clara conceives of and designs nearly all of the iconic leaded-glass lamps for which he is long remembered. Copies are available at the upstairs circulation desk.

Reality Check adult book discussion will meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 14. The book discussed will be "Don’t Shoot: One Man, a Street Fellowship, and the End of Violence in America" by David M Kennedy. Copies are available at the upstairs circulation desk.

Murder and Mayhem adult book discussion will meet at 11 a.m. Feb. 19. The book discussed will be "Murder Boogies with Elvis" by Anne George. Birmingham’s most mismatched set of siblings, flamboyant Mary Alice and prim and proper Patricia Ann, are looking forward to attending a gala benefit to help restore one of the city’s most unnatural "wonders." The benefit's grand finale is to be 30 sequined Elvis impersonators highkicking in unison. At least that’s the plan, until one Elvis ends up keeling over in the band stand. Copies are available at the upstairs circulation desk.

Friends of the Library Book Sale is Feb. 9. Members only shop from 9 to 10 a.m. and the general public can shop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Membership available at the door. There is an ongoing book sale located in the Adult Services Department.
