Adult Book Discussions

Reality Check adult book discussion will meet at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 9. The book discussed will be “She Left Me the Gun: My Mother’s Life Before Me” by Emma Brockes. Copies are available at the upstairs circulation desk.

Murder and Mayhem adult book discussion will meet at 11 a.m. Jan. 21. The book discussed will be “Knots and Crosses” by Ian Rankin. Copies are available at the upstairs circulation desk.

Friends of the Library Book Sale Jan. 11. $5 Fill a Bag. Members only 9 to 10 a.m., general public 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Membership available at the door. There is an ongoing book sale located in the Fiction and Beyond Department.

Adult Programs

2014 Friday Night Concert Series featuring Mo’ Beat Blues 6:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 3. Mo’ Beat Blues performs a little bit of everything. Samuel and Janice Lozada remake familiar songs to fit high energy style of music, out of the ordinary and totally captivating. Doors open 30 minutes prior to performance.

Adult Winter Reading Program Begins runs through Jan. 18. Theme is Victorian Tea Time. All you need is your library card. Stop at Fiction and Beyond to pick up your booklet. We will celebrate the program at 10 a.m. Jan. 25 in the Community Room. Light refreshments will be served. Register for this event.

Jane Austen and Her Women: a Portrayal by Leslie Goddard 10:30 a.m. Jan. 9.

This program introduces eight Austen characters — including Emma Woodhouse, Anne Elliott, Marianne Dashwood and others using Austen’s own dry, humorous, sarcastic words. Register.

Laughter Yoga with Tanaz Bamboat 10:30 a.m. Jan. 16

Laugh for the health of it and feel the difference in just one session. Burn calories, relieve stress and have fun at the same time. Register.

What’s New at the Library? 2 p.m. Jan. 24

The library has many tools to help you remain informed about our new books, music and more. Come learn about Author Alerts, NextReads and the features of our library catalog. Registration is required and is limited to 10 Lansing Library card holders.

Monday Morning Movies 11 a.m. Jan. 13

Every second Monday of the month we will be showing one of the hot new releases in the Community Room. No registration is required, however seating is limited at each screening to 60. For more information on the scheduled titles, call Fiction and Beyond. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Computer Classes at the Lansing Public Library.

Registration is required and is limited to 10 Lansing Library card holders. Must have library card to register. Classes are 1 1/2 to 2  hours in length. Call or pick up the newsletter for available classes, dates and times.

Dead Relative’s Society will meet from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Jan. 18

Calumet River Creative Writers Group will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 4 and 18

Purls of Wisdom Knitters and Crochet Circle will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 8 and 22 and from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 3 and 17.

The Lansing Business Women's Association is cutting and sorting coupons for our military families overseas. The coupons can be used six months past the expiration date at their commissary. Join us on the first Monday of every month at the Lansing Public Library in the Community Room. We meet 9:30 a.m. to noon and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Bring you scissors and any coupons you may have.
