LANSING | Lansing School District 158 will be is hosting the 4th Annual Lansing Roundball 5th Grade Basketball Classic beginning Feb. 14 through 16 and Feb. 21. All games will be played at Memorial Junior High School in Lansing.
Several local businesses are supporting the tournament, with all proceeds going to the Lansing Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels and LARC. A food drive is also being held at the schools this week. The winning school will be announced at the championship game. The admission price is $1 for child, $2 for adult, and $5 max for a family.
Canned goods will be collected by Memorial Junior High School's National Junior Honor Society at the entrance for the Feb. 21 game for the Lansing Food Pantry. There is no admission on this date.
Lansing Mayor Norm Abbott, Village Clerk Patty Eidam and the Lansing Police and Fire Departments are all pledging their support in making the event a success. Mayor Abbott attend for tip off at the start of the first game on Thursday, February 14th. In addition to the boys’ games, members from each school’s 5th grade girls’ team will compete in a Hot Shot shooting contest at half time of each game throughout the tournament. The concession stand will be open all dates and before the championship game. Memorial’s Band will be playing our National Anthem.
