LANSING | At the seventh annual Evening of Thanks dinner, more than 40 volunteers from the community were recognized for their service to the community. One of them was Dr. Kerri Katsalis, of Ridge Animal Clinic, who was the special volunteer nominee for the Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce.

Katsalis' name was called again later in the evening as a surprise award was presented. The ATHENA is an international award established in 1982 with a mission of supporting and honoring women leaders who assist other women in reaching their full potential.

A veterinarian for more than 30 years, Katsalis has worked in Lansing for the past 13 years using the latest technology in pet health care. She is also an accomplished pianist and plays the organ for weddings at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, where she is also a member.

Katsalis is part of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, a philanthropic organization of the church and directs the church youth choir. She is a past vice president of the Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce and has served on the board of directors ad spearheaded the Chamber's street banner program. She is also a past president of the Lansing Business Women's Association.

Each year Katsalis sponsors a brunch at Ronald McDonald House in honor of her nephew, who has a form of heart disease.
