Lansing Village Board to meet only once in November

LANSING | The Lansing Village Board will meet only once in November, on Nov. 20.

In a typical month, the trustees would hold two full-fledged board meetings and a committee of the whole session.

But Village Administrator J. Wynsma sent an email message to village officials on Monday saying this month, only the final regular board meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at the police and courts building, 2710 170th St.

Part of the reason for the change is that the first board meeting of the month and the committee of the whole session usually are scheduled for the first Tuesday of the month.

But during November, that would be Nov. 6, which is Election Day. Village ordinances specifically prevent any Village Board sessions from being held on the days of elections, in part because the courts facility also serves as a polling place.

Village Clerk Patty Eidam originally thought the session was to be re-scheduled for Nov. 13, until she received her own copy of the email informing her the meeting was cancelled outright.

Wynsma told The Times he made the decision to cancel the meeting because there is no municipal business that would have been on the agenda that is so urgent that it needs a quick vote of approval by the Village Board.

“If something were to come up, we could always re-schedule,” Wynsma said.
