HAMMOND | Federal officials charged a man Monday with criminal sexual conduct after he allegedly transported a 14 year-old Hammond girl over the state line for sex, court records state.

Carey Ray was charged in a criminal complaint with knowingly transporting the teenage girl from Indiana to Illinois with the intent of having sex.

According to the complaint, Ray met the girl on and started communicating with her via text message and by phone. The girl told officials she met Ray in Munster on Oct. 5 and had a few drinks with him in a parking lot, the complaint states.

Three days later, Ray picked her up and took her to the Days Inn hotel in Lansing where he allegedly gave her marijuana and liquor before forcing her to have sex with him, according to the complaint.

When he dropped her back off at her home, she told her mother what had happened.

The mother took her to Lansing Police Department to report the incident the next day and police launched an investigation which included them pulling footage from the hotel and all of the phone records between the two, court records state.

The girl also positively identified Ray in a photo lineup of six men, according to the affidavit.

Ray was arrested on Sunday and made an initial appearance in federal court Monday where he was scheduled for a detention hearing on Thursday.
