LANSING | Oak Glen School in Lansing recently hosted a Family Bedtime Story Night. Members of the community were invited to read along with Oak Glen staff. Families gathered in classrooms in their pajamas and listened to various children's' stories being read followed by milk and cookies in the cafeteria.
Cindy Nieckula, a kindergarten teacher at the school, was the organizer of the event, which she said exceeded expectations. About 180 students registered for the event and each student was given a free book at the conclusion of the evening.
Participating readers were Oak Glen staff Katie Larson, Lindsay Garcia, Kelley Banaszak, Kristen Buehler, Travis DeYoung, Mary Yonkers, Carol Wachala, Linda Wolgamott, Karrie White, Laura LaBella, Kim Morley and Theresa Brazda. Additional community readers included Fire Chief Dan Gregorovic, Police Sergeant Tim Biron, community member Dan Sciackitano, children's book author Carrie Steinweg, Superintendent Cecilia Heiberger, Mayor Norm Abbott, Deputy Police Chief Tony Lucito, Assistant Fire Chief Ken Verkaik, Firefighter Jeremy Taylor, Police Officer Steve Winkler and Firefighter Tony Minkalis.
