MUNSTER | Two men were charged in a Munster Radio Shack robbery, and evidence of robberies at other Radio Shacks was uncovered after a search warrant was served on the home of one of the suspects, police said.
Antoine Gates, 35, and Javonte Colbert, 18, both of Gary, each were charged with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of criminal confinement and two counts of theft in connection with the Oct. 15 armed robbery at Radio Shack, 7967 Calumet Ave., according to a news release from the Munster Police Department.
A third suspect remains at large, police said.
Police said Gates, Colbert and the third suspect allegedly entered the store at 8 p.m. Oct. 15. After looking at merchandise, Colbert pointed a black handgun at two employees and ordered them into a back room, where they were bound with duct tape, police said.
Gates and Colbert then took money from the cash register, several cellular phones and other electronic devices before fleeing the store, police said.
A surveillance camera recorded their vehicle leaving the shopping center shortly after the robbery, police said. Investigators used the video to track the suspects to Gates' home in the 700 block of Hanley Street in Gary, police said.
During a search of the home, investigators found several of the items taken in the Munster Radio Shack robbery and other items taken in robberies at Radio Shack stores in Griffith, Michigan City and Lansing, police said.
Gates and Colbert are being held at the Lake County Jail on $8,000 cash bonds, police said.
