LANSING | Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak is hosting an event at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Lansing Knights of Columbus Hall, 17800 Lorenz Ave.,that will be offered to taxpayers in Thornton Township seeking to appeal their 2011 property tax assessments.

Along with the participation of Village President Norman Abbott, Building Commissioner Jeff Zupan, Clerk Patty Eidam and Thornton Township Supervisor Frank Zuccarelli, the board hopes the seminar will educate taxpayers on how to file a successful tax appeal at a time when the economy is putting added pressures on home and business owners.

The hourlong session will include a presentation by Patlak that explains how property taxes are calculated and the appeal procedure of the Board of Review. Before the end of the evening, taxpayers will have an opportunity to work with analysts from the board to address their specific questions.

The event is free to the public, and there is no fee to file an assessment appeal.

Property owners are asked to bring a copy of their most recent tax bill.

Contact the Board of Review at (312) 603-3644 with any questions.

Taxpayers also may file an appeal online by visiting www.cookcountyboardofreview.com.
