When I think of funny Valentine's Days memories, one in particular stands out to me.

I can't quite remember the year or what grade I was in, but I do remember how excited I was to hand out Valentine's Day cards during my elementary school's celebration. I had picked a special card out for the boy who made my heart swell and filled my belly with butterflies. It was the most perfect card ever, trust me.

I placed this card into his handmade Valentine's Day mailbox before passing out the rest of my cards to my fellow students. I returned to my desk excitedly, dug out this elementary school heartthrob's Valentine addressed to me and nervously opened the envelope. Hoping I'd learn of his secret love for me, I was absolutely heartbroken when I realized he didn't even spell my name right.

Needless to say, this case of puppy love didn't end with a happily ever after.

I'm sure someone in the Region has a story that will easily trump mine, so why not share your story with NWI Communities for this year's Valentine's Day contest? Last year we asked for the most adorable couples to share their story. This year we're asking for your funniest Valentine's Day stories.

Write up your funniest story in 200 words or less and email it to Celebrate@nwi.com by Thursday, Feb. 13 at midnight. Accompanying photos are optional. The winner will be announced Friday, Feb. 14.

Now onto the prizes.

The grand prize winner will receive two tickets valued at $88 for "Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash" at Theatre at the Center in Munster, a $50 gift certificate to Blackstone Woodfire Grill in Schererville, a dozen roses valued at $75 from Dixon's Florist in Munster, and a $25 gift certificate to It's Just Serendipity in Hammond.

Two runners up will also be announced and will receive two movie tickets each at Cinemark Theater in Valparaiso.
