Fred Taylor Jr. was named a January Student of the Month by the Rotary Club of Lansing, highlighting his success both in the classroom and on the football field.

The Thornton Fractional South High School senior was awarded 2013 South Suburban All-Conference Honors and named 2013 Times All-Area Player.

“I was team captain this year and really enjoyed playing football and spending time with my teammates,” Taylor said.

“To be chosen as the Rotary Student of the Month was a great honor. It was nice to know that one of my teachers recognized my hard work and dedication (and nominated me),” Taylor said.

Taylor is an honor roll student and recently received a $35,000 academic and athletic scholarship to Northwood University in Midland, Mich. He plans to major in accounting or finance.

“My mom has inspired me because she went back to school to get her bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting,” he said.

“My ideal career would be to work as the lead accountant or financial officer for a well-known company. I like math and want to be able to help others,” Taylor added.

Taylor resides in Lansing with his mother, Bonita Taylor, and sister, Brianna. He enjoys exercising and playing video games.
