Lansing resident Ricky Ramirez hopes his compassion for others will lead to a successful career in psychology.
A senior at Thornton Fractional South High School, he maintains a 3.4 grade-point average and is a member of Student Council, Pep Club, and the Scholastic Bowl team, in addition to playing baseball and football.
“My friends and family have been encouraging and helpful in my search of a major and referenced psychology to me and it caught my eye,” Ramirez said.
“I’ve applied to Northern Illinois University, Illinois State, and Western Michigan University. As a psychologist, I would be helping people with mental issues and in need of someone to talk to or in need of advice.”
The son of Ricky and Jennifer Ramirez, Ramirez was recognized in October as a Lansing Rotary Club Student of the Month.
“The Lansing Rotary Club likes to give back to the community. They also turn business owners into leaders in the community,” he said.
“I was recognized for being a leader in my community, my academics, and my overall actions throughout the school year.”
Ramirez said he was shocked at first to receive the award.
“It’s a great honor to be seen as a good student in school and a leader to my peers.”
