LANSING | Fifth grade students at Oak Glen School in Lansing recently completed the D.A.N.G.E.R. Program (Drug, Alcohol, Nicotine, Gang, Education, Resistance.)
The nine-week program replaced the previous D.A.R.E. and G.R.E.A.T. programs led by Officer Michael Manno and Officer Aaron Barnes. The program was designed specifically for the Lansing schools and is taught in all public and private schools in the village.
The D.A.N.G.E.R. program is taught by Officer Michael Manno and Officer Bill Kowalski, who go into the schools once a week for lessons covering the truth about drugs and gangs, dealing with cultural diversity, how to deal with peer pressure and bullying, learning to resolve anger issues and strengthen refusal skills, decision making, social and family responsibilities and other topics. Prizes are given out for answering review questions at the start of each lesson.
After completing the program program, students are given a certificate of completion. The program is administered for fifth and sixth graders, who also get a D.A.N.G.E.R. t-shirt.
