LANSING | The Committee for the Patti Leach Memorial Scholarship has announced the 2013 recipient of the award is Shannon Pollard, a graduate of Thornton Fractional South High School.
Pollard was selected as the third recipient of the annual $500 scholarship. This monetary award can be used toward furthering her education, with the hope that Leach’s memory and commitment to athleticism and putting the children first can be carried through future generations.
Pollard, of Lansing, attended Oak Glen Elementary School from 2000 to 2006, Memorial Junior High School from 2006 to 2009 and T.F. South High School from 2009 through her graduation today. She plans to attend Purdue University Calumet to major in engineering.
Donations are now being accepted to endow the Patti Leach Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship program is created as a perpetual memorial to Patricia A. Leach, who served as a physical education teacher in Lansing School District 158 from 1968 to 2005. In addition to a distinguished teaching career, Leach was a 21-year member of the Lan-Oak Park District Board of Commissioners, served as a village of Lansing trustee for eight years, and as a Lansing School District 158 board member for one year. She was the first female member of the Lansing Lions and was also a member of the Kiwanis Club. Leach passed away Aug. 29, 2010.
