Lansing teenager Kevin Quealy hopes his future efforts in researching alternative energy will improve the environment for future generations.

A Thornton Fractional South High School senior, Quealy plans to study environmental science at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.

He hopes to help solve the eminent energy crisis that he believes humanity will face in the upcoming decades.

“I've always been an outdoors kind of person and I've always respected the profound beauty of our planet, and I hope to be able to preserve that.”

“At the rate at which we use fossil fuels and coal for our energy, by the time people in my generation reach 50, these seemingly necessary will be nearly depleted,” he said.

“I hope to be able to do research to shift the world in a direction of producing efficient renewable energy."

The son of Tom and Sherrie Quealy, Kevin maintains a 4.1 grade point average on a 4.0 scale due to weighted grades, and is a member of National Honor Society, Scholastic Bowl, and Executive Board of Activities.

He played baseball with the three-time Illinois state championship team from 2009-11, and has been involved in the TF South Drama Department for two years, most recently portraying Link Larkin in "Hairspray."

“I like being able to completely become another person to expand the boundaries of your own personality,” he said of his theater experience.

A member of St. Ann Church in Lansing, Quealy enjoys biking and reading. He is also employed at Lan Oak Lanes in Lansing.
