LANSING | Two men face felony charges after shots were fired, wounding one person and injuring at least one other, Tuesday in Lansing, police said.
Police received numerous calls about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday of shots fired in the 2500 block of Indiana Avenue, a residential area. Callers reported hearing between five and 10 gun shots, police said in a news release Thursday night.
Responding officers found a 17-year-old from Glenwood who had been shot in the leg. He was treated by Lansing paramedics. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening and he refused to be transported to the hospital.
Officers also treated a 19-year-old who lived in the house where shots had been fired, who was not shot but was injured running for cover. He also refused to go to the hospital.
A 19-year-old from Dolton was at the scene but was not injured, police said.
Acting on information from witnesses and from video surveillance footage from a nearby business, police identified a vehicle and possible suspects. Investigators found the vehicle early Wednesday morning, and three men were taken into custody. Police said an assault rifle and high-powered ammunition rounds were recovered.
The Cook County state’s attorney’s office Thursday approved felony charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery with a firearm for Everardo Rosales-Urcino, 19, of Glenwood, and Ernesto Gonzalez Jr., 19, of Chicago. They are expected to appear for bond hearings today at the 6th District courthouse in Markham.
The third person in custody was released without charges.
All three are confessed Ambrose gang members, police said.
Police said the shooting was an isolated incident and people residing at a specific house in the 2500 block of Indiana Avenue were the intended targets.
