LANSING | The Village Board last week approved contracts for street and sidewalk repairs that will be paid for with Illinois motor fuel tax funds.

D Construction, of Chicago, will get $516,645 to resurface streets in residential areas, and Davis Concrete Construction Co., of Round Lake, Ill., will get $38,016.50 for replacement of sidewalks.

Dave’s Tree Service and Landscaping, of Munster, will get $76,375 for tree removal, also paid with motor fuel tax funds.

Village President Norm Abbott said he is particularly pleased the sidewalk repairs, which he thinks are overdue.

“This is the first time we are taking money for street repairs and using it for sidewalk work,” Abbott said. “This has been needed for a long time.”

Village Engineer Jeff Pintar said all projects will need approval by the Illinois Department of Transportation, and the state has eight days after opening bids to approve contracts.

Once that period expires, work will begin on the projects in August.

Also last week, the Village Board approved the awarding of a contract to MidCo Inc., of Burr Ridge, for $139,700 for installation of a new security camera system for police headquarters, 2710 170th St.

All of those measures were approved by votes of 5-0, with Trustee Tony DeLaurentis absent.

DeLaurentis had surgery recently and is recovering. He has not been to any Village Board sessions in July.

Abbott said DeLaurentis told him he is recovering well. DeLaurentis expects to be back at his government post by August, Abbott said. The Village Board has meetings scheduled for Aug. 14 and Aug. 21.
