Caleb Lyzenga, 18, was chosen as a February Student of the Month by The Rotary Club of Lansing for his dedication to volunteering within his community.
Lyzenga is a senior at Illiana Christian High School and a member of the school’s Christian Service Club.
“Christian Service Club is a club at my school where a group of students plan activities in surrounding communities where we volunteer and raise money for different organizations that benefit the community,” Lyzenga said.
“I felt really honored to be chosen (for the award). It was also nice to know that my work is noticed,” he added.
The teen plans to attend South Suburban College for a business degree, and hopes to work in Chicago in a human resources position. “A lot of different people, including family and friends, encouraged me to work with people and said that I have a gift,” he said.
The son of Daniel and Julie Lyzenga, of Lansing, Lyzenga is one of eight children – Ben (Jessica), Danae (Brent), Luke (Morgan), Mark, Daniel, Isaac and Julia.
He works with his father at Lyzenga Construction, and enjoys attending youth group activities at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Lansing.
In his free time, Lyzenga is a mentor with the Friendship Club, a program for mentally disabled adults and children.
