LANSING | The Lansing Junior Woman's Club is organizing a 5K walk-a-thon fundraiser on May 18 in honor of LCPL Philip J Martini. Martini died in 2006 while serving in Iraq with the United States Marine Corps. He was a Lansing native and T.F. South High School graduate.

Registration can also be done the day of the event and will begin at 8 a.m. Please note that if you register the day of the event, we will have a limited number of shirts available. The race will begin at 9 a.m. This will not be a timed event.

There are no ANIMALS allowed! No bicycles, no skateboards, no roller skates. Strollers are permitted.

The cost is $35 for adults and kids 12 and up. Children ages 5 through 12 cost $17.50. Kids under the age of 5 are free, but they will not get a shirt. The price includes a T-shirt, bottle of water and a granola energy bar.

The event will be held at Winterhoff Park in Lansing (corner of Roy and Madison streets). The race will begin and end at the LCPL Philip J. Martini tree, which was planted in his honor.

The funds raised will go toward upkeep of the Martini Tree and the annual Veteran Appreciation Dinner organized by the club. For more information, call (708) 466-5503.
