CHICAGO | The Illinois Department of Transportation on Thursday announced it has reached an agreement with CN Railroad concerning construction of a bridge carrying U.S. 30 in Lynwood over the CN/Elgin Joliet & Eastern railroad crossing, according to a news release.

The Surface Transportation Board in December 2008 ordered the bridge be built as a condition of allowing CN to acquire the EJ&E Railway Co. The board stipulated that CN would be required to fund the bridge while IDOT would be the lead agency responsible for construction.

Construction should begin in the spring with substantial completion by fall 2016. Once completed, the bridge should increase safety and mobility, reduce congestion and improve traffic flow in the area, the release states.
