LYNWOOD | A fire Monday afternoon damaged a house in the 20100 block of Driftwood Avenue, officials said.

A Lynwood police officer patrolling the area spotted smoke coming from the house about 12:50 p.m., said John Swanson, chief of the Lynwood Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were visible coming from the house's south side, Swanson said. No one was home when the fire started and there were no reported injuries.

The fire jumped to a neighboring house where it caused minor damage, he said.

Firefighters put out the fire within 30 minutes. Nine neighboring fire departments assisted the Lynwood Fire Department.

The cause and origin of the fire were still under investigation Monday night.

Swanson said investigators were still assessing the damage but said the home could be a total loss.
