MARKHAM | Bond was set at $3 million Wednesday for a Lynwood man who faces criminal charges in connection with the slaying of his son.

Enoch Hayslett, 26, who lived with his wife and four children at their home in the 19900 block of Park Avenue, was arrested this week and charged with murder and two counts of aggravated domestic battery, police said.

He appeared for a bond hearing at the 6th District Cook County Circuit Court, where Judge Darron Bowden set the bond. Hayslett will be held at the Cook County Jail while his criminal case is pending.

Hayslett is scheduled to appear in court again Jan. 7 for a preliminary hearing, said Andrew Conklin, a spokesman for the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Hayslett’s 8-month-old son, Lamar, was found in a bathtub filled with water Dec. 12, and family members initially told police they found him drowning in the tub. The boy was pronounced dead that same night at The Community Hospital in Munster.

But Lynwood Police Chief Michael Mears said an autopsy of Lamar ultimately determined the boy died as a result of injuries from physical blows to his body, including a skull fracture.

Mears said the bathtub was “not a factor” in his death, even though that is where police found the body.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services took custody of Hayslett’s three other children earlier this week.

Mears said Hayslett’s wife has been cooperating with police. She does not face any criminal charges.
