MARKHAM, Ill. — A suburban Chicago police officer has been injured while pursuing a vehicle allegedly involved in a shooting at a gas station.

Markham Police Chief Mack Sanders says officers responded to a call in the suburb southwest of Chicago around 5 a.m. Sunday. The suspect's vehicle allegedly fled the scene and refused to stop.

The officer was injured while attempting to stop the vehicle.

The officer had a body and head injury and was hospitalized. The two-year department veteran was expected to be released Monday and make a full recovery.

Authorities are investigating.
