A winter storm was expected to continue to bring snow into the Chicago area until Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service did not have estimates Tuesday evening of how much snow accumulated in Northwest Indiana. Officials had said Northwest Indiana would get little more than a sloppy dusting.
In Illinois, Beach Park received the most snow with a report of 8.2 inches, according to the National Weather Service's website. Beecher residents received 1.9 inches of snow.
Snow showers are expected to continue to move into the area into Wednesday night and could create 2 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service's website.
Wednesday night's forecast continued to show most of Northwest Indiana receiving 1 inch to 2 inches of snow, and the northern Porter County receiving up to 4 inches.
Porter, Newton and Jasper counties were part of the Tuesday night's hazardous weather advisory.
Freezing rain or sleet moved from south to north by mid-morning Tuesday and changed over to snow around noon. Indiana State Police had reported numerous, scattered single-vehicle and multi-vehicle crashes on area expressways as roads began to get slick by mid-afternoon.
