SPRINGFIELD, Ill. | Polls have closed across Illinois after voters cast their ballots in the state's primary election.

The exception is a handful of polls in Chicago and the suburbs that courts allowed to stay open an hour later on Tuesday. That's because the Chicago polling stations opened late this morning.

The most prominent race on the ballot is the Republican campaign for governor. Four men are hoping to win the party's nomination to continue on to the general election in November.

Businessman Bruce Rauner is leading in the polls against state Treasurer Dan Rutherford and state Sens. Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard.

Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn faces a lesser-known challenger, activist Tio Hardiman.
