RIVERDALE | Illinois State Police and the Cook County state's attorney's office are investigating a police shooting Wednesday in Riverdale, police said in a news release.

About 3 p.m. Wednesday, Riverdale officers saw a large group of people at School and 142nd streets. Officers saw several individuals run from the scene and one person reportedly had a gun in his hand.

The man pointed his weapon at the officers, who fired on him, the release states.

The man, whose identity is not being released, was taken to a local hospital. No further information was available from the Riverdale Police Department.
