SAUK VILLAGE | Motorists driving along U.S. 30 in Sauk Village may have noticed signs indicating that portion of the road, also known as Lincoln Highway, had been "adopted" by Bloom Trail students.

The Bloom Trail Navy Junior ROTC adopted the section between Glenwood-Dyer Road and Torrence Avenue in the spring. The students braved the rainy, chilly weather on Oct. 13 to keep the area cleaner and picked up garbage along the route.

The event is coordinated through the Illinois Department of Transportation and cleanup is conducted once per quarter.

The Bloom Trail NJROTC unit is available for community service events in the local area. In addition they provide services such as color guards and marching exhibitions. The program has been at Bloom Trail for nine years and is designed to teach the students better citizenship and make them leaders in both the school and community at large.
