SAUK VILLAGE | A Sauk Village woman is dead after being struck by a car while walking Wednesday evening, Sauk Village police said in a news release.

Rebecca Vinezeano, 40, died at 10:20 p.m. at Franciscan St. Margaret Health hospital in Dyer following the crash, according to the Lake County coroner's office.

Police received a report of a woman hit by a vehicle at 8:05 p.m. in the 2200 block of East Sauk Trail Road, police said. Vinezeano had been walking on Sauk Trail and crossed the road when she was hit by the driver of a Camaro, Deputy Chief Tim Holevis said. The driver did stop and there were no other witnesses. It is unknown why Vinezeano was walking, Holevis said.

Emergency personnel transported Vinezeano to the Dyer hospital, where she later died of blunt force trauma.

No charges have been filed in this case.
