SAUK VILLAGE | Family Fest 2013, which took place March 19 at Rickover Junior High School, is District 168's second annual community resource fair.
The purpose of the Family Fest is to make continued connections between school and community. Family Fest helps to bring the knowledge of available resources to the forefront. There were 18 agencies represented at this year's Family Fest as well as raffle baskets given away, free book giveaways, light refreshments and child supervision provided.
The Strassburg school choir along with the Rickover Junior High School choir performed some song selections. Guest Speaker, Genevra Walters, superintendent from SPEED school District 802, spoke on the importance of making school and community connections. Walters provided the guests with a brief description of the Common Core standards and the point that academic expectations are in many ways different from 15 to 20 years ago.
According to its website, SPEED is a service organization whose primary functions are to plan, advise, recommend and provide special education programs and services for all member district students.
