Firefighters celebrate graduation

OAK FOREST | The Fire Academy for the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System Division 24 recently held its graduation ceremony at Oak Forest's Gaelic Park.

There were 22 graduates, with participants from Thornton, South Holland, Harvey, Glenwood, Flossmoor, Phoenix and East Hazel Crest fire departments.

The academy director is Johnny Jones, a lieutenant with the Hazel Crest Fire Department; assistant academy director is Matt Berk, captain and training administrator for the Flossmoor Fire Department. Training chief for the academy is Bob Grabowski, chief of the Homewood Fire Department. Roger Agpawa, chief of the Country Club Hills Fire Department, is assistant training chief, and Jones is training coordinator. South Holland Fire Chief Don Bettenhausen presented the certificates.

The Brian Carey Award was also presented, named for Homewood firefighter Brian Carey, who died in the line of duty in 2010. The award went to Aldric "A.J." Hinton, of the Flossmoor Fire Department.

Flossmoor Fire Department - Kyle Blatt, Evan Davenport, Craig Freberg, Michael Galen, Aldric Hinton, Clinton Langefeld, Brendan Marshall, Talon McNeil, Steven Wheeler

Glenwood Fire Department - Charles Chapman, Matthew Drause, Zachary Krause, Bradley Steinweg, Alison Wojack

Harvey Fire Department - Cameron Forbes

Phoenix Fire Department - Prince Woods

South Holland Fire Department - William Frye

Thornton Fire Department - Jeremy Klimasara, Adam Kukulski
