SOUTH HOLLAND | South Suburban College will host a celebration in honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. at 10 a.m. Monday in the Kindig Performing Arts Center, 15800 S. State St., according to a news release.

Monday is the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the federal holiday honoring the civil rights leader who was born Jan. 15, 1929.

The event is sponsored by Thornton Township, its Human Relations Commission and Thornton Township High School District 205.

Doors will open at 9 a.m. for the "Living the Dream — College & Career" event, admission is free.

The keynote speaker will be Bishop Lance Davis, of New Zion Covenant Church in Dolton. D.205 students will present skits and songs celebrating King's life. A delegation of elected officials is expected to be in attendance and light refreshments will be served.
