STEGER | On Aug. 24 the Bloom Trail Navy Junior ROTC unit helped make the first Steger Music Fest a success.

The 30 volunteers were on hand to help with various tasks ranging from making signs, cleanup, admission, and operating games for the kids. The event took place at Veterans Park and featured a wide range of bands that played during the weekend. The kids had games ranging from the inflatable slide and jumping room, hula hoop, and face painting. The cadets were available to help with all the various activities.

The mission of the Navy JROTC program is to make students better citizens and give them a good foundation with which to live the rest of their lives. The Bloom Trail unit has been active now for the past 11 years and in addition to community service they take field trips to military installations, compete in events such as drill, orienteering, and fitness. They also provide color guards for ceremonies, parades, and other events.
