STEGER | The village of Steger and Steger Kiwanis host their annual Christmas parade and food drive Nov. 24.

Santa and his helpers will visit each village street picking up nonperishable food and toiletry donations beginning at 9 a.m. Donations will be delivered to needy families in the community on Dec. 22. Donations also are being accepted at the Village Hall, 35 W. 34th St. For more information contact the hall at (708) 754-3395.

The Steger Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its annual Christmas Trees on the Boulevard display. Trees can be purchased at Bambino's Family Restaurant, 37 E. Steger Road. They will be available for decorating today. The official tree lighting ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 24. Santa and helpers will be in attendance with cookies and hot drinks. The Steger Spirit Commission will be judging the decorated trees in four categories: best Christmas spirit, best theme, most patriotic and most unique. Judging will take place during the week of Dec. 9. The winner in each category will be presented with a $25 gift card courtesy of Steger Village President Lou Sherman at the Steger Village Board meeting on Dec. 17. Winners will be notified in advance.
