ST. JOHN | Two people riding a motorcycle Sunday morning were seriously injured in a crash on Calumet Avenue near 109th Avenue, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Department.

Joy Hobbs, 46, and her passenger, Ian Hobbs, 15, both of Steger, were taken to Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Crown Point after the crash, police said. They were later airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The crash happened at 7:34 a.m. as Joy Hobbs was stopped at a stop sign in the southbound lane of Calumet Avenue, Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Patti Van Til said.

A 2005 Kia Amanti driven by Eric Evers, 36, of Lowell, crashed into the back of the motorcycle.

Deputies are investigating but don't believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, Van Til said late Sunday.
