THORNTON | The Thornton Police Department will conduct a traffic safety enforcement through Nov. 25 thanks to a $9,850 grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Police Department announced.

The STEP grant aids local law enforcement agencies to concentrate on traffic safety problems during specific times of the year that are designated by IDOT. This is done by paying officers on their off-duty time to increase traffic enforcement with an emphasis on safety belt, child restraint and driving under the influence violations.
