THORNTON | The Thornton Police Department is participating in a holiday crackdown on drunken drivers and seat belt violators through New Year's Eve, according to a news release.

Thornton officers will be on the lookout for violators between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. throughout the campaign. The Police Department recommends designating a sober driver and not letting friends or family drive drunk and making sure all passengers wear a seat belt.

According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the midnight to 3 a.m. time frame is the deadliest time on Illinois roadways.
