THORNTON | The Thornton Police Department will conduct special patrols on the St. Patrick's Day holiday to crack down on drunken drivers and unbuckled motorists, police said in a news release.
Police suggest designating a sober driver for the night and don't let friends drive drunk.
Police also noted that a host can be held liable and prosecuted if someone they serve is involved in a drunken driving crash.
Other tips for the holiday weekend include help arrange ride-sharing and a designated driver for guests; serve lots of food and nonalcoholic beverages and keep phone numbers for local cab companies handy.
Police also suggest taking the keys away from anyone who is thinking of driving drunk.
