THORNTON | The Thornton Police Department will conduct special patrols beginning Friday through Sept. 2 to crack down on drunken drivers and seat belt violators, according to a news release.

Police remind the public to designate a sober driver or risk getting pulled over for a possible DUI. Police also will focus on seat belt violators especially at night when seat belt usage rates are the lowest.

The enhanced patrols are funded by federal traffic safety funds from the Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Traffic Safety.
