CHICAGO | A Cook County judge issued an order Wednesday that restores Kenneth Williams and two allies to the ballot for the April 9 election for the Thornton Township High School District 205 board.
Judge Maureen Ward Kirby ruled that the high school district’s Electoral Board “acted improperly” in removing Williams, School Board member Judith Gibbs and School Board candidate Annette O’Neal from the ballot, according to the school district and the Cook County Board of Elections.
That election board panel, consisting of attorneys appointed by the courts, ruled in January that Williams, O’Neal and Gibbs should not be on the ballot. In Williams’ case, they said his nominating petitions were flawed because they were loose sheets of paper, rather than being bound with paper clips.
Williams, Gibbs and O’Neal had planned to run write-in campaigns for the April 9 election, but will now have their names printed on the ballots.
Williams has served on the School Board since 2009 and has been board president for the past two years. He is the focus of an action by the Cook County state’s attorney’s office to remove him from the School Board because of a felony conviction in 1986.
