UNIVERSITY PARK | The United States Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus, acclaimed around the world for musical excellence, will present a free performance at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at Governors State University Center for Performing Arts.

From Boston to Baghdad, Tampa to Toronto, the U.S. Army Field Band has been thrilling audiences of all ages for more than six decades. As the premier touring musical representative for the United States Army, this internationally acclaimed organization travels thousands of miles each year presenting a variety of music to enthusiastic audiences throughout the nation and abroad. Through these concerts, the Field Band fosters the support of the American people for members of the armed forces and supports diplomatic efforts around the world.

The program at GSU Center will include a mix of marches and patriotic music, classical selections, and music by popular songwriters like Stephen Sondheim and Barry Manilow. Included in the program are “Patriotic Prologue,” by SFC Adrian Hernandez, the Field Band’s staff arranger; “Armed Forces Salute” by various composers; “Concert Piece No. 1,” by Felix Mendelssohn, and “Overture to Candide,” by Leonard Bernstein.

The United States Army Field Band is considered by music critics to be one of the most versatile and inspiring musical organizations in the world. Its members, selected by highly competitive audition, represent some of the finest musical talent in America. More than six decades as the military's most traveled musicians have earned them the title, "The Musical Ambassadors of the Army."

The Field Band will be accompanied by the 29-member Soldiers’ Chorus, a mixed choral ensemble that travels throughout the nation and abroad, performing as a separate component and in joint concerts with the band.

Tickets for the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus are free. To reserve tickets, contact the GSU Center box office at or (708) 235-2222. There is a limit of four tickets per household. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and two hours prior to performances.
