A broken rail just west of Michigan Boulevard in Michigan City has westbound South Shore commuter trains running 10 to 15 minutes late this morning.
According to John Parsons, spokesman for the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, the broken rail will cause delays on trains running between Michigan City and Chicago from 6:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
Parsons said it was unclear what caused the rail to break.
