Artists' month | Chicago
Throughout the month the Southeast Chicago Historical Society Museum, 9801 S. Avenue G, in the Calumet Park Field House, will feature an exhibit of the work of local artists and photographers. Come and see what local artists and photographers have done using the Calumet Region as their subject. Works by Joseph Mulac, Rod Sellers, Gloria Novak and 100th Street muralist Noel Morales will be displayed. The regular hours of the museum are 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursdays.

Heartland Blood Centers will have a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 30 at Illiana Christian High School, 2261 Indiana Ave. Donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 with written parental permission; weigh at least 110 pounds; be symptom free of cold, flu and allergies; and be in general good health.

Cafe Fest | South Holland
Bobbie Saltzman and the South Suburban College Playhouse will host the fifth annual week-long Open Mic event from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 3 to 6 in the college's cafeteria at 15800 State St. Songs, poetry, dramatic readings are just some of what can be seen during the Fest. The Hammond Area YMCA is now holding open registration for the November session of Swimnastics, a low impact aerobics class in shallow water, ideal for people of all ages including seniors and pregnant women. Swimnastic classes promote strength, increased mobility and flexibility, improved circulation and relaxation without the impact of land aerobics. The National Honor Society of Bishop Noll Institute with the Heartland Blood Centers is sponsoring a blood drive from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the school. Northwest Indiana Health Disparity Initiative-Region I, along with The Office of Minority
Health, Indiana State Department of Health and the Statewide Minority Diabetes Alliance, will host a diabetes awareness conference entitled Too Sweet for Your Own Good from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Genesis Conference Center, One Genesis Plaza. The conference will feature regional physicians, clinicians and educators providing state-of-the-art information on disparities in treatment, living with and preventing diabetes. CORONARY HEALTH | St. John
Community Hospital offers a coronary health appraisal from 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 30 at Community Hospital's Outpatient Center at 9660 Wicker Ave. This screening helps to determine the risk for heart disease and other related conditions. The screening includes cholesterol and blood sugar testing, blood pressure, Metabolic Syndrome assessment and heart health profile. A 14-hour fast is required.
The fee is $30.
