Writer's group | Lansing
The Writer's Special Interest Group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 18 in the Community Room at Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Ave. For experienced writers and beginners, the Writer's Group can offer support and advice. Royal breakfast | Calumet City
Little princes and princesses ages 3 to 8 will feel like royalty at the Calumet Memorial Park District's Royal Breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 8. Participants will make their own craft crowns and will dine on French toast with sausage. Dressing up is optional, but encouraged. Registration is required. The fee is $10 per participant. Healthy Families Hike will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 19 at Thorn Creek Woods, 247 Monee Road. Meander down the trails and observe the changing colors throughout the woodland. This program is free and open to all ages. Register.

Flu shots | Calumet City
Senior flu shots are available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 20 at Thornton Township Senior Center, 1420 Huntington Drive. Shots are free for those with Medicare Part B. It's $22 for those with an HMO. Shots will be administered to those 65 and older and to those who are chronically ill. No pneumonia shots will be given this year.

Park rededication | Flossmoor
The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District invites area residents to a rededication of Pinehurst Park, 1501 Tina Lane. The rededication, which will highlight the recent updates to the park, will be held at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 21. A special presentation will be made regarding park safety, including a visit from Seemore the Eagle, the park district's park mascot. In case of rain, the rededication will be moved indoors to the Goldberg Center, 3301 Flossmoor Road, Flossmoor.

The Towle Theater will host a fundraiser, 24 Hours of Towle, which will have 24 hours of continuous programming. The fundraiser will start at 8 p.m. Oct. 17 and end at 8 p.m. Oct. 18.
